For those of you who don't know, Cooper is our beloved little dog! He has been such a great buddy to both Peter and I especially since we both work so much. His personality is so cute and he just fits in with us. I've been able to bring him to the office with me everyday and he has been such a nice little companion to have during the LONG hours of the day and night!
Yesterday morning I was playing with Cooper on our bed. He loves to pounce things and was jumping around and trying to catch my feet as I wiggled them under the covers. One hop went a little too far and he fell right of the edge of our bed. This is usually kind of humorous but this time he started crying hysterically. I jumped out of bed and grabbed him in my arms to try and calm him down. He was frantic and I could tel he was in ALOT of pain. Peter came in and was finally able to sooth him (and our ears).
We called the vet to see what to do because Cooper wouldn't walk on his back right leg. We couldn't touch it without him whimpering. We gave it time to see if he'd perk up at all but we had no such luck. He was down all day so peter took him in. Hesitant to spend money on an X-ray Peter asked the Vet if we could give it another day and see how he did.
Cooper whimpered through the night and we decided to take him in and get the x-ray. We found that a little chip of bone had been broken off but that little chip happened to be the spot on his knee that held his tendon. Of course! Surgery is our next option unless we want to let him suffer with this for the rest of his life. We've been shopping around to find a clinic that does surgery rather than go to a specialized orthopedic dog surgeon. We have a consultation tomorrow morning.
Although he's just a dog and to most, probably doesn't seem worth the hassle... he has become a member of our family and we want to do what we can to help him (to an extent, some people can get a little ridiculous). It is amazing how quickly they can find a permanent home in your heart. We love our little friend so much and are so proud of him for learning so much in the little while that we've had him.

oh this is so sad. Poor cooper! He is such a cute puppy and when I read this I felt so bad for him.
Sad!! My mom's puppy broke his leg just a little while back and they had to have a splint put on. He was hobbling around for a while. Poor cooper!
Your little puppy is so cute! He would definately be worth it! Hope life is well!
Oh poor little Cooper - and poor you guys. Those pet bills are hard to swallow. When Rusty got run over we ran him to the Pet Hospital and they tried to see if there was something they could do but in the end we asked them to put him down so he wouldn't suffer. We were there for about 20 minutes and $400.00 and a dead dog later we went home. It was very sad but we loved him so much we just had to do something. Next time (hope there ins't one) we would just take more time to see what was necessary.
